Transitioning from film to fine art

I’ve been a cinematographer for many decades. I love designing lighting and composition for moving images (www.normanbonney.com). But in recent years, my love for light and beauty has found a new home in art.

I’ve sketched sporadically throughout my life, but in the fall of 2016, when my wife and I traveled to Italy, something changed. I happened to bring a sketchbook with me and found myself drawing the beautiful textures and scenes that surrounded us whenever I could. What had been a passing interest was now an obsession. When I got home, I immediately began the systematic study of realist art.

I remain an actively working cinematographer who draws and paints as much as possible.
